The driving force behind this project is our belief that music can do more then simply entertain; music can be used as a tool to heal, sooth and educate those around it. As in the case for the Blue Star Connection, music can even be used to help heal children with life threatening illnesses and create more financial backing and public awareness for them. There are several ideas that are relevant to our mission. We know from parent’s feedback, that music not only provides a hobby for sick children, but also can change their outlook, motivation, and strive to get better sooner. We also want to encourage people in our community to attend live music, and in particular the Blue Star Connection’s fundraisers. Live music, we believe is an essential part of well being in a community. We want to help raise awareness about the real positive influence that music can have for a community/children and to give people access to ways they can make a difference.

We strongly believe in the influence that music can have in various ways. We are convinced that in regards to sick children, it really can make a difference. One of the parents of a sick child that the BSC donated to said: “I know that you are not looking for public recognition, but I wanted you to know that you made a tough stretch for Derek seem a little bit brighter” (BSC). A letter from the Transitional Learning Center in Texas said: “To say thank you for the outstanding gifts that you bestowed upon our team and our patients is truly minimal and seems inadequate. Imagine the excitement that our patients showed when they saw the instruments that you gave to us. They will definitely be able to express themselves in ways that they have not been able to up to this point in their recovery” (BSC). This feedback and the amount of it that exists is our justification for believing music can have a legitimate impact.

By encouraging fundraisers put on by the BSC in the area, we want to increase the number of attendants to these events therefore increasing the awareness and donations offered to the BSC. We are in this way, an aid to their organization and an aid to sick children.
